I was a dreamy, creative girl growing up on 70s and 80s music. People thought I was a bit weird and I didn’t have many friends. That was my first taste of rebellion: owning who I was, even when it wasn’t always easy.
When I was seventeen, just out of high school, I had a brain hemorrhage. Recovery was tough and I struggled with depression for a long time. But it made me realize that life’s too short not to chase your dreams. I decided to combine the two things I love most: vintage fashion and making art.
That was the start of The Dutch Rebel: one-of-a-kind, hand-painted vintage pieces that carry a story. Jackets that feel like the love child of a seventies muse and a modern-day rebel. Art you can wear.
I built the brand from my bedroom floor: sourcing the best quality vintage pieces, turning them into one-of-a-kind creations, setting up my webshop and slowly getting my designs into 11 stores across Europe, including places like Ibiza, Switzerland and Berlin.
From feeling like a misfit to building something I’m proud of: that’s true rebellion to me. And that’s exactly what The Dutch Rebel stands for.
